Feng Shui Painting Part 2: Color Trends for 2011
I just attended a wonderful presentation on Color Trends for 2011. Hosted by Sherman-Williams, there are four “Color Stories” that are predicted to be hot in the new year. Each color story is a set of colors that help to create a certain mood or theme for the home. Here are the four color stories, along with the paint colors associated with each one. I’ve also included some pictures of interiors that I think reflect each color story nicely. Check it out and see if any of these rooms speak to you…
1. “Purely Refined”: This feeling is all about understated elegance. Muted, calming colors and tailored furnishings create a sense of order and peacefulness. Here are the colors assoicated with the “Purely Refined” color story:
These colors make me go “ahhh”. Here is how I could see using them in a room:
2. “Restless Nomad”: Reflecting a love of travel, and a blending of cultures, this is an exotic, sultry feeling. Colors are warm, based on Asian, African textiles, as well as spicy foods! Here are the colors:
I love the mix of patterns that make up this look…
3. “Gentle Medley” : A feeling of nostalgia, love of vintage items, and the simple things in life, define this look. The colors are taken from the past, fresh and innocent:
The colors make me think of cozy spaces like these:
4. “Bold Invention” : For the brave at heart, this look takes inspiration from the art world, graffiti, and sculptural furniture. Strong colors dominate, such as:
Think fun and fearless:

I’m at the point of wanting a new bedroom and have talked to Reiko regarding hiring her in the near future to help me with this project. I’m leaning toward the “purely refined” as I can’t think of anything better than coming home to a cool, calming space designed by Reiko at the end of the day.
Cool colors and designs! Thanks for posting this!
Yes Vicki, looking forward to coming to San Francisco to see you next month!
