Mecox Home and Garden: Nature, Refined

For those who have not visited the Hamptons, I thought it would be nice to do an occasional post on some of the design stores that make this place so special and inspire me in my projects. Let’s start with Mecox in Southampton.

A wise teacher once said, “Human beings were not meant to live in the city or in the wilderness – they were meant to live in a garden.”

I’m reminded of this quote while walking through Mecox Garden. Mecox has a wonderful way of “curating” nature. There’s a natural flow between the furnishings and their surroundings that is very Feng Shui.

Here is a sampling of what makes Mecox so special…

The blending of raw and refined, and the way they embrace the “perfect imperfection” of nature, is what makes Mecox one of my favorite design resources in the Hamptons!

This one is so special – I just had to share. It’s a cabinet covered in delicate peacock feathers. Lovely statement piece for a den or home office.

Whew – what a wonderful show – with so many amazing artisans!  What was your favorite piece? Let me know in the comments!

Southampton Guest House Preview

Renovations are always a big job – and extra challenging when you live elsewhere and simply can’t manage all the details. I think that’s our sweet spot! Our dear Brooklyn clients have a summer home in Southampton and wanted to turn their run down shed into a lovely guest cottage for family and friends. We were happy to take on this project for them (I just love transforming spaces like this)! Here are a few before – after pics. We’re still finishing up the last details and will post final shots soon…
