Feng Shui Tips for 2014 The Year of the Horse

2014 Horse

Think back three or four years ago…how were things going of you?

Did you feel trapped by the financial crisis that was affecting the entire planet? Did you feel you were spinning your wheels, trying to find a way to get solid footing in a world that was trembling beneath your feet?

Did it reach well beyond your bank account, to your relationships? Did it strain your partnerships, both personal and professional?  How about your health?  Were you just plain exhausted and stressed out?

Now, fast forward today…what has changed?

How is your financial picture? Seeing some improvement? How about your relationships? And health? While none of us can say we have everything perfectly in place and all of our dreams have come true, are things getting better?

While there are always an assortment of reasons why big things change, one factor has definitely been a gradual shift in the world’s Feng Shui.  In the last two years, in particular, the energy has been moving in the right direction.  And…I’ve got good news for you:

2014 is a year glowing with optimism and full of possibilities!

If you play your cards right, you can use the power of this New Year to further financial success, improve love and romance, and strengthen your mind, body and soul. By taking advantage of the energy that is inherent in this year, and that exists within your own home and office, you can maximize all the opportunities that are coming your way. This is where using Feng Shui comes into play.

The power of Feng Shui can be miraculous, but it is not magic. It is actually a series of mathematical calculations that help us understand the energy inherent in our Earth. The reading of the Earth’s energies is often referred to as Geomancy (from the Ancient Greek geōmanteía which translates literally to “foresight by Earth” and is a translation of the Arabic term ilm al-raml, or the “science of the sand”).

Now, let’s look at the energy for 2014:

WHAT’S IN STORE THIS YEAR

Each year has its own unique energy that permeates everything. This year’s energy is strong for success and is especially wonderful for creativity, romance, and spiritual growth.

It is fantastic for those people who are involved in the arts, such as writers, painters, dancers, as well as those who are in the film and television industries.

This year also has the potential for starting new loving relationships. In your work, it is strong for achieving financial goals or attracting more attention, which could lead to growing a business or getting a promotion.

Spiritually, this year can be  a wonderful time to delve deeper into forming a strong connection to a higher power, or one’s own personal power. Spiritual practices started this year can have surprisingly beneficial results.

In addition, this is a good year for finance. The economic recovery will continue and the stock market will resume its rise.   It follows then that it is a good time for those who work in the financial field. It is also a strong year for technology and communication industries (those who work with computers, apps and software, as well as public relations, even coaching and public speaking could see success).

However, as those who have worked with me know, wherever there is strength, there is also some weakness. It is the Yin and Yang
of this world.

This year has a stubborn streak. We might find people surprisingly inflexible, and if we are holding tightly to our opinion, arguments could easily happen. We can head off these conflicts by keeping lines of communication open and clear, and by making an effort to see where the other person is coming from.

On the world stage, this year could see difficult global situations with stubbornness amongst leaders, creating tension and lack of forward progress on peace talks and other international agreements.

So while 2014 holds great promise, there are also some potential pitfalls. By knowing the possible challenges, we can protect ourselves and make sure we are not thrown off track on the way to achieving our goals.

To work with these tips, you will want to determine where each compass direction falls in your space. Place the recommended element in each area to strengthen weak areas and enhance strong areas. Try to spend more time in the strong areas, especially while working and sleeping.

Areas to avoid if you build a home or perform a renovation in 2014: This year, the North, Northeast and Northwest have a possibility of accidents or injuries. Feng Shui Tips for 2012 The Year of the Dragon

Welcome to the powerful year of the Dragon!

In Chinese astrology, the Dragon is considered a benevolent creature that brings luck. Dragons symbolize success and happiness, and those born in a Dragon year can be quite uninhibited and free-spirited, trusting that everything will work out for them.  Which it often does. On the opposite side, their free spirit can make them unpredictable, and sometimes a bit quick to anger.  But in general, they are quite generous and enthusiastic.

WHAT THE DRAGON YEAR MEANS FOR THE WORLD

In the Chinese calendar, this is a “Water Dragon year” and it is represented by the elements Water sitting on Earth. In  the 5 Element Cycle which governs Feng Shui, Earth drains Water and creates an unbalanced relationship. This can create some weakness, though not nearly as much as we saw in 2010 and 2011.

International Issues

Global tensions will lessen somewhat. International conflicts may ratchet down from actual fighting  to angry words and trade embargos. While far from achieving world peace, it is a move in the right direction. Additionally, the economic stress that the world has endured will slowly improve throughout the year, though don’t expect a quick fix. Fire is the element that feeds the financial markets, and fire is not present this year.  Luckily, however, the worst years are behind us.

Political and Social Movements

These elements of Water and Earth can have a positive effect if applied to social changes. This combo can motivate people to form organizations that work to change the status quo and see real reforms. The Occupy Wall Street movement, for example, is an organization which could benefit from this year’s energy. And since it is an election year in the US, a third party presidential candidate could arise, with surprisingly strong support.

Environment

Looking at environmental issues, Water and Earth can clash, creating disasters such as tsunamis or earthquakes, which result in flooding (it is interesting to note that 5 of the largest earthquakes on record happened during Dragon years.) And while it happened days before the New Year, I couldn’t help but see the cruise ship disaster off the coast of Italy as a result of Water and Earth – a luxury ship hitting rock formations submerged in the ocean.  On a more positive note, strong water and earth can be beneficial to the growth of trees and forests, and we could see recovery of natural habitats and stronger environmental protections this year.

All in all, 2012 should be a very exciting year, and while it will contain its fair share of challenges, positive change will ultimately be the result.

WHAT THE DRAGON YEAR MEANS FOR YOU

2012 Is Your Year to Speak Up

One of the key features of the Water Dragon is that it strengthens your ability to communicate and speak strongly for what you believe. This is a great year to “find your voice” and boldly create the life you want.

Feng Shui Tips for 2011 the Year of the Rabbit

Welcome to the year of the Rabbit! Are you ready for a fresh new start? I am! Let’s look at what this year means for you, for your home, and for the world…

FENG SHUI IN THE WORLD

To sum up this year in one line: Slow and steady wins the race”

You know the story of the tortoise and the hare who are racing to the finish line? The hare mocks the slow moving turtle and pulls out ahead, only to take a nap and awake to find that the tortoise has crawled across the finish line first.

One moral to the story is that being consistent, even though it might be slow going, is ultimately more beneficial than rushing ahead to “get it done.” This being the year of the Hare, its good to remember the lesson he learns: patience and persistence.

This year is symbolized by the elements Metal and Wood. In general, it is a gentler year than we have recently seen, however in Feng Shui, metal cuts wood, so the Rabbit year can have a spirit of peacefulness with mounting conflict under the surface.

On the world stage, we may see growing disagreements among countries which could lead to problems. Specifically, this energy could lead to attempted assassinations of world leaders, or surprise attacks. (I do not wish this on anyone, and hope that the knowledge of this year’s energy will help people act with patience and compassion.)

The year is strong for issues regarding justice, and could be a year that we see advances in human rights issues.

Here in the US, President Obama is supported by the year of the Rabbit, and we could see this as a year when he is rewarded for his diplomatic efforts.

On Wall Street, the energy of 2011 is slow and steady for growth, with a nice surge during the summer months.  Nothing groundbreaking, but the housing market could see a bump up.

 FENG SHUI IN YOUR LIFE

Based on Chinese astrology, the signs that are lucky in this Rabbit year are the Dog, the Pig, and the Goat. If you are one of those signs, its time to push outside of your comfort zone and go for your dream!

(To find out your Chinese Astrology sign, check out this site. )

Those born in the year of the Tiger, Horse, Dog, or Rat may have some exciting romance starting in 2011!

The Rabbit year is a strong year for romance in general. However, it can also lead to unwanted consequences such as affairs or scandals. Be careful.

If you are born in the year of the Rooster or Rat, take extra caution this year to protect your health.

FENG SHUI IN YOUR HOME OR OFFICE

Now let’s look at our homes and offices.  Below are Nine Feng Shui Tips, corresponding to the eight compass directions, plus the center of the space. Where possible, try to use the suggested element for each area. But if that is impossible or impractical, use the color which corresponds to that element.

(Note: If you have received a personalized Feng Shui consultation from me, please contact me for a personalized 2011 annual update. This will allow you to maximize the power of 2011 in your space!)

EAST area:
This area of your home or office can be difficult for money, or possible theft. This is also not a good area of your home to do construction on in 2011, as it could lead to accidents. Add METAL to improve this area. (Items made of chrome, brass, iron, or stainless steels OR colors gold, silver, grey or white.)

SOUTHEAST area:
Could be good for romance, creativity and academics this year if you Add WATER such as a fountain, aquarium, OR colors blue or black.) Note, without the water element, it is actually quite weak in these same areas, so get that water running!

SOUTH area:
Weak for health, especially for women. Add METAL to improve this area. (Items made of chrome, brass, iron, or stainless steels OR colors gold, silver, grey or white.)

SOUTHWEST area:
Good for romance! Add WATER and METAL elements to strengthen further. (See SE and South sections, above, for suggestions.)

WEST area:
A good area for money and career growth. Also strong for romance. Make sure to work or sleep in this area if possible. You can enhance it further by Adding EARTH. (Crystal, stone, ceramic or marble items, or colors orange, yellow, tan or brown)

NORTHWEST area:
This area receives the award for Best Feng Shui in 2011! Fantastic for fame and wealth. No remedy is necessary, but could Add EARTH element to promote wealth. (See West section for suggestions).

NORTH area:
This area is mixed, with the possibility of growth, but also problems with legal issues or theft. Remove Water and Add FIRE to protect the good energy of this space. (Fire can be candles or the colors red, fuchsia, or purple.)

NORTHEAST area:
Could be good for money and property, just be careful to avoid high risk investments. No remedy needed.

CENTER of your space:
Good for business. Add EARTH to enhance. (Crystal, stone, ceramic or marble items, OR colors orange, yellow, tan or brown.)

The above recommendations are general suggestions, and while they can certainly be useful, their effectiveness will be enormously enhanced once they are set in the context of the home or office’s individual Feng Shui reading. I offer customized consultations both in person, and online.  The results that my clients have seen have been quite spectacular – highlighting the power of true Feng Shui.

May the Year of the Rabbit bless you with peace, prosperity and abundant good luck!
